Publishing Agents help You get Published

Are you interested in getting published? Want to make your mark on the world?
Publishing agents, or literary agents, are your best asset. Not sure how the process works, keep reading.
Publishing Agents
Every writer, at some point, dreams about being published someday. To make that dream a reality, you need a literary agent.
Big publishing houses will not take unsolicited manuscripts. It soon hit me that no publisher would communicate with me. The larger companies want to deal directly with literary agents.
Agents are people who are in your corner. They usually don’t charge upfront fees, and only get paid when you do. They are similar to lawyers in that they don’t get paid, if you don’t get paid. Hint - they want you to get published.
A literary agent helps you get published by helping to polish and fix your work. They do this by getting you to submit your work to be critiqued.
Once your work is critiqued, or you’ve passed other criteria, they send it out to various publishing houses.
When they have found a publisher who matches your manuscript subject, that publisher will contact you directly. Keep in mind, just because a publisher is interested in your work, does not mean you have to go with them.
For example, my first offer to be published was either by self-publishing or on-demand. I didn’t think either offer was a good deal, because I was paying $500 out of my pocket. And that’s $500 I didn’t have. So I turned it down.
I then told my literary agent that I wasn’t interested in that offer, and now they are searching for another one.
Agents are great because they are flexible, help you improve your work, and have your best interest in mind. But they will not hold your hand. If your work is unacceptable (poorly written, lots of grammar errors), they will tell you to fix it up and resubmit it.
How to find a Literary Agent:
To find anything, I suggest googling it. Go to the search engine and type "publishing agents." The top relevant sites will appear.
I have gone ahead and listed three of my favourite sites. My first choice is,
wlw writers agency - publishing agents
- this is the agency I work with.
My next choice would be using
agent query.
Lastly is firstwriter, this site has a great database of literary agents, so I suggest browsing it.
