How to Create an Ebook

Knowing how to create an ebook is a handy skill.

It’s inexpensive and a great way to make a second income.

The first step is to pick a subject you love. Something you are passionate about and have a lot to say about it. Take some time and really think about what you enjoy doing.

From there I suggest brainstorming to compile a list of words to help you build on that topic. To learn more about brainstorming and other writing exercises, click here.

After you have come up with a decent amount of topics related to your subject matter, draw an outline on how you plan to create an ebook. Think about things like:

  • How long it will be
  • Whether or not it’s free. If your ebook costs money it generally should be the length of what you’re charging. A $7 ebook would be a lot shorter than a $50 ebook.
  • Think about who your audience is and change your tone accordingly. If it’s a serious subject, be serious.
  • What do you want to convey? What should the reader learn from your ebook?
  • Do some research. Find out if people are interested in your subject and what exactly they are interested in.
Now that you know what your market is looking for, you're ready to create an ebook.

Usually I’ll start with a list of ideas that I want to expand on. From there I build the beginning, go over all the topics, and wrap the ebook up. I make sure to conclude all my points and answer all questions that someone might have. If you can’t answer everything, direct them to where they can get it.

Ebooks enable you to publish your own work and get your name out there. It’s a great addition to your portfolio. For more info on building a portfolio, click here.

Once your ebook is finished, you'll need to offer it digitally. It’s best to keep it formatted as a PDF. This way both Macintosh and Window users can view the ebook. A lot of the ebook software out there isn’t Mac compatible, so you would be missing out on a bunch of potential readers.

Write the ebook in word; arrange the graphics and content, then convert it to a PDF. To learn more about converting word to pdf, click here.

If you do decide to sell an ebook or some kind of software, you need to know how you’re going to do it, you need to follow two steps:

  • Get a paypal account (business account). They offer buy now (single purchases at a time), or shopping cart (multiple purchases at once). So choose what’s best for you. This is where your payments from customers will come from.

  • Signup for payloadz to create an ebook. Payloadz is a free way to offer your digital products so that they remain secure. It is free till you pass $100.00 and then they charge you per transaction. They have instructions on their site about how to connect it to Paypal.
If you want to offer your ebook for free, scribd is the next best option. You upload your document, and they provide a url. It’s that easy.

*** If you need help writing a profitable ebook, there is a great program which will teach you how to write, create and market your ebook.

I hope I have given you the tools you need to create an ebook. Good luck and happy writing.
