Christmas Writing Prompts

Christmas writing prompts are a great way to get into the holiday spirit and get your creative ideas flowing.

I decided to create some writing prompts with a holiday theme. These prompts should help get you in the mood for the holidays this season.

1. Regardless of your age, write your Christmas wish list. Do you think you’ll get everything you asked for? Why or why not?

2. Create your own Christmas carol. Use jingle bells as your guide for the tune and structure. Base it on family traditions, religion, or a Christmas theme.

3. If money was not an issue, how many people would you buy Christmas gifts for? Who would they be? Why? What would you get them? Why do they make your list?

4. Describe what your custom-made Christmas card would look like and say. Who would you give these cards too?

5. Use one of the many Christmas activites found here, and make a list of your own Christmas writing prompts. Or Use one of these activities to create a story.

6. Describe your perfect Christmas. Where are you? Who are you with? Why is it so perfect?

7. Write a letter to Santa. Describe your year to him and write about whether or not you’ve been good all year. Be detailed in your account.

8. Write a Christmas themed short story using any of the Christmas story starters found here. Make the story at least 3 pages, also try to end it with a happy ending.

9. Write a Christmas miracle that you’ve experience, or if you haven’t experienced one, write about a miracle you’d love to see happen. Why is it a miracle?

10. If you could design your own float to have in the Christmas parade, what would it be? What colors? Who would walk beside it? Who would get to ride in the float? How would the float move? What kind of music would you play?
