Christmas Story Starters
Christmas story starters are a great way to get you into the holiday spirit.
If you're interested in writing a short story or novel based on the holidays, story starters are a great way to get your creative ideas flowing.

1. The boy had been good all year. He had written his list early to Santa. Now he sat patiently at the edge of his bed waiting to see what Christmas brought him.
2. Suzy did not believe in Christmas. In fact you could almost say she hated it. It’d been a long time since she felt any Christmas cheer. Perhaps this year would be different.
3. It was a blizzard out there. John paced the room trying to contain his worry. Where were his wife and son? The Christmas parade had finished hours ago…where were they?
4. Christmas was only a few days away. Peter gripped the steering wheel tightly. He was trying hard not to think about the disappointed faces of Jack and Joe when they realized they didn’t get the game system they wanted…but until he got his bonus, he wouldn’t be able to afford that gift. They would just have to be happy with the few small clothing items he’d gotten for them already.
5. Her dream wedding would take place on Christmas. It was her favorite day of the year, and she didn’t care if she died trying, she refused to get married on any other day.
6. Lucy stared at the blank wish-list trying to hold back tears. Every year she wrote her Christmas list and sent it to Santa, and every year she was sadly disappointed. It was almost to the point where she thought it was a waste of time. She was only eight, and already life disappointed her too much.
7. John Paul had a school assignment, he had to create his own story starters. He was given a website, and was told to come up with at least ten story starters. Need some help? Pick one of these Christmas activites and create your own Christmas story starters.
8. “Dashing through the snow,” the music teacher sang. She stopped and waited for the class to join in. “On a one horse open sleigh,” she continued after sensing that she was not going to win the crowd over. “Over the fields we go, laughing all the way.” She clenched her fists in frustration; she had no idea why she had volunteered to teach music to a group of bitter kids. But she was here for a few more days so she’d better make the best of it.
9. The box was as tall as him and wrapped in bright green Christmas wrap. He eyed it wishfully. He only had two more days to go, but it seemed like forever. What could the present be? He was almost tempted to peek, but knowing Santa would know, he didn’t dare risk it.
10. He had spent hours at the tree lot looking for the perfect evergreen tree. It was their first Christmas together and he wanted everything to be just right. The tree he picked was just large enough to fit in their living room, without being too big, and was bushy enough that their decorations would fill it nicely. He smiled; he couldn’t wait to show Meg the tree. He was sure she’d love it.
